In the late 80s and through the 90’s, Amon’s was my insomniac husband John’s almost daily breakfast choice at dawn o’clock or earlier. The staff used to get him grapefruit from the nearby Winn Dixie, although it was not on the menu, and they kept his personal grapefruit spoon with the serrated edge under the counter for him. In chili season, we both had to have the lunch special of Rosemary’s chili with a grilled cheese sandwich at least once a week. I live in TN now, but every time I visit friends in Somerset, I stop by for a sandwich, or a muffin, or a biscuit with gravy, and sometimes there‘s a chat with a staff member who was there 40 years ago or so too.
